    Superb

Magnificent situation and scenery - second to none - and reached via a long narrow cul-de-sac - (but with several other hotels, so not secluded). Marvellous walking and climbing, canoeing on the doorstep. Pleasantly surprised by prices.

    Exceptional

The room was a very hugh standard.

    Fabulous

Staff very nice and changed our room to one with a bath on request, just a shame that we couldn't use it on the Sunday as the hot water gets turned off for several hours during the day (we weren't warned about this). Also we could not get back into the hotel at 10pm because the door was locked and there was no external door key on the key ring (again not told door would be locked and key should have been on key ring). Had to go and find someone who worked in the hotel that we had seen by chance in the local pub to come and let us in.

    Very good

    the room was lovely

food was overpriced compared to others hotels we stayed in that week. would have liked to have been offered assistance with our baggage

    Fabulous

Super setting below Symonds Yat Rock and on the edge of the River Wye. Very nice dining room with good food. It's an old building so not smart and modern but they have made the best of it. Our room and bathroom were very spacious.

It wasn't the quiet retreat that we had expected but because of the canoeing crowds melted away on Saturday evening.

    Fabulous

Amazing location with glorious views. The building has been developed taking into consideration period features. It had a sizeable carpark. Staff were very efficient at check in/out and in the restaurant/bar.

Although the menu was extensive the dishes failed to live up to expectations and were rather to quirky.

    Fabulous

Stayed an extra night as we found the hotel excellent value for money, and the restaurant menus of a high standard, you would be hard to please if you could not find a meal to suite, and all meals we had were cooked to perfection. Rooms had good facilities, and were clean and well furnished.

Could have done with separate shower.

    Good

Lovely position with rooms overlooking the river Wye. Very easy access to walks, gentle to more strenuous. Good access to river activities, canoes river trips. Food at the hotel was very good. Outside areas lovely but weather dependent. Excellent value for money as a last minute booking

Room far too hot. Bed uncomfortable Limited indoor public areas (necessary during inclement weather)

    Superb

Beautiful, peaceful and unspoilt location. Friendly and helpful staff. A very good menu. The view of the River Wye from our bedroom window was idyllic. The bedroom was recently re-decorated and tasteful.

We were on the second floor and the staircases were very narrow - but a member of the hotel staff did carry out suitcase up for us. The basin was in the bedroom and there was no basin in the bathroom which was a bit inconvenient.

    Superb

Friendly staff, good food, lovely room, nice gardens and in one of the best locations in the UK.

  • 8.2
    Fabulous

Great location, friendly, helpful staff. Easy car parking.

Menu was a bland. Dishes on menui.e were limited. For example two nights running there was only one trout. Chef served salad garnish with steak and kindney pie. Wine prices were a little on the high side for very average bottles of wine.
